An excursion to Iceland brought new views of the world—landscapes created by volcanic eruptions and melting glaciers were living collages with their dramatic edges between rock and greenery. The shifting of tectonic plates bent and pushed through the earth’s surface; bending, cracking, and pushing mountains further upward. There is a sense of powerlessness against these forces that creates awe in a way that only allows one to add to the silence of the terrain.
